This Friday 27th July, artist Rachael McArtthur will be leading a potrait painting workshop for under 12s, free! Come down to paint to be painted!
She has picked out a couple of her favourite portaits for inspiration.. here is the first.Says Rachael - “This lady has nice striped gloves. This painting was made by the artist Francis Picabia. By the end of last weekend there were around 300 frames of our film - only 362,619 behind Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs! This amounts to somewhere between 10-20 seconds, dependent on how the final piece is put together - whilst film runs at a standard 24 frames per second, it’s not…

Artist’s impression of the Idonia Street Flats (Maple House), Deptford, London (circa 1947).
Maple House was built in the late 1940s as one of the first social housing responses to the housing crisis in London after World War II. The 5 storey block of 60 deck access flats contrasts massively with the social housing blocks that were started to be built just 10 years later.

There are currently people in London, be they residents or holidaymakers, photographing and uploading pictures on the internet. Today, I have decided that I shall be photographing the bits of London that are not always acknowledged or appreciated by visitors. There is life beyond Central London be it Park Lane, Brompton Road, Piccadilly Circus and most currently, the shiny Olympic Stadiums. But what about the real London? It annoys me that areas such as Stoke Newington, Hackney, Whitechapel or Finsbury Park are overlooked. It seems that sadly the lack of photos from these areas show a kind of divide of what people want to see when they visit London and what London actually is. This may seem far-fetched to some, but this is how I feel. So from now on, I shall be uploading pictures of the people’s London. So here is my first photo #london #deptford #thereallondon #picoftheday #instadaily #igers #summer (Taken with Instagram)
